Farmer

Walking to the cow pasture 

Four legged companion

Cheerfully panting 

Beside me 

Evening heat 

Dry winds 

Shuffling meadows 

Nettle flowers and killdeers 

 A perfect lulling match 

Cows off in the distance 

Look up, nodding hello 

Quickly replaced by chagrin’s 

As my companion rounds them up 

In the nearby pond, 

Lilly pads are diving boards

For melodic frogs 

Chirp, Plop, Chirp, Plop plop 

Field Irrigation ready

River days now everyday 

Blackberries ripening 

Playful calves bonking heads 

It’s Summer 

The best time of the year 

Everything in full bloom

And evenings rest 

well deserved after a long day
